All people deserve a chance

Enas Ajaj is 39 years old and from Ghouta, Syria.

I have been in Denmark since august 2015. Before the war I had a very good life. My husband and I had a nice house, my husband had a good job, and a car. For eight years I worked as a school teacher. We had good neighbours, a good family and were very happy. In the weekends we would take trips.
When the war started I was very afraid of what was going to happen. Continue reading “All people deserve a chance”

I have managed to balance my old life with my new life

32 year old man from Homs, Syria. Anonymous.

I came to Denmark in 2014. In Syria I owned an academic book shop next to a university. Before the war the Syrian people were like the Danish people. We had a family, a life. I went to work, visited my family. I studied at the university. I studied English literature for four years, and international law for four years. Life was beautiful before the war started. Crossing the unruly sea to get to the island was like looking at Death

Muhamad, 37 years, and Kouder, 36 years, from Damascus, Syria.

We are brothers and before the war in Syria broke out we lived with our parents, sisters and brothers in a refugee camp in Lebanon, where we arrived in 1994. Life was good in the camp, even though sometimes there were conflicts between different groups. Occasionally we got to work as a mason and a painter, respectively, which made it possible for us to make a living. I go to school every day together with my sister

Girl, 14 years old, Kurd, Syria.

I came to Denmark in early 2016 with my parents and my sisters and brothers, and first we lived in the countryside in our own house. It was a very nice house, because it was nice and peaceful as I did not have to share my kitchen with anybody else except my family. But then we moved to Copenhagen to another temporary housing with shared facilities and a lot of other refugees around, and it was just very different from what we had been used to. One of my biggest dreams it to be really good at football

Boy, 9 years old, Kurd, Syria.

I have been in Denmark since early 2016, and until my family and I got our own apartment in Copenhagen we lived in several refugee centres, where I made good friends with whom I would play games like tag and hide-and-seek. It would be just like the games we played in Syria. Continue reading “One of my biggest dreams it to be really good at football”
