Every day I would spend some time watering the flowers

Man from Syria.

Before the civil war broke out I worked as a tailor. I was happy with my wife and children and we had just bought an apartment in the city, where we lived when things got more complicated. And we decided that I should go alone to Turkey to work in order to save up some money for the family, so that we all could leave Syria. My work consisted of assembling different kinds of furniture, but the man who was my boss was a racist and he was always shouting a lot at me, and I only managed to stay there for 2 months before I went back again to Syria. However, as the situation soon got worse the entire family left for Turkey, where we lived for many months and where we survived by me earning a little money here and a little money there, usually doing some carpentry. We eventually decided to send our son to Denmark, but sadly enough it took 3 years before we were united in Denmark in December 2017, and I was just so excited to see him again. And I was and still am glad to see that my son now has grown as a person and that he is in school and is more independent.

I am grateful to be in Denmark and I feel that I have been treated well in the temporary housing, where I was living before I got my own apartment with my family. The employees and volunteers in the housing and everybody else were always smiling and there was always someone to chat with. And every day I would spend some time watering the flowers.
