I wish the Danes to see us people for Syria as hard working people

Alaa Alkoje is 38 years old, from Hama, Syria.

I am from Hama in Syria and I have five children. I came to Denmark in 2015. In Syria, I worked in construction and trade between China, Dubai and Syria. All my life I have been working, because when I was very young, Bashar al-Assad’s father; Hafez al-Assad killed all men in my hometown Hama. He got every man over the age of 16 killed. Approximately 200.000 men.
I started to work with maturing shoes. My father used to make shoes. I did that in the daytime. At night, I got a job in construction. I worked 13-15 hours a day, every day of the week. Continue reading “I wish the Danes to see us people for Syria as hard working people”

Every day I could hear the noise from the bomber

Aiden is 20 years old and from Aleppo, Syria.

I had a good and for a boy-my-age normal life in my city. I lived in an apartment with my family and would go to school. I had two hobbies and one of them is chess and the other one is swimming; back in Syria I took a swimming certificate. I had many friends and would work on my computer, which is something that I like a lot and also would like to work with sometime in the future. Two careers I have in my mind and would like to explore are soft engineering and data science.   Continue reading “Every day I could hear the noise from the bomber”

I started to build my network

Manal Tahhan is originally from Damascus, Syria.

I escaped from Syria because my life was threatened there. Before, I lived outside of Damascus. The area was controlled by the army, so I escaped from there to Damascus with my three kids. After that I found a job in the ministry of justice. I worked there as a secretary. After three years from the war, I started to arrange my life in Damascus. It’s no problem. I sent my kids to school. After three years there was a treaty between the Assad-army and the other army, the Isis-army. Continue reading “I started to build my network”

Before 90 % of the Danes liked refugees, now 90 % dislike us

Muheildin, 31 years old, Afrin, Syria.

I lived with my family in Afrin, and from there I would go and work in Lebanon for 3 or 4 months at a time as a tiler and then go back and spend some time in the house of my family: I am Kurdish and Kurds historically have had problems in Syria, not a lot of problems, but enough… Continue reading “Before 90 % of the Danes liked refugees, now 90 % dislike us”

Every day when I woke up I felt like this was the last day of my life

Hassan Alsamma is 44 years old and from Ghouta, Syria.

I came to Denmark in 2014. In my country I was an interior designer. I had a lovely life before the war. I owned my own house and was a manager at my job. When the war started, I didn’t expect it to develop into a war. I was sure that after a day or two, everything would go back to normal. Unfortunately the war escalated and we were very afraid. Our apartment was situated next to a military compound from where they were sending rockets. For that reason we were very scared, and decided to leave our home. I was alone in Saudi Arabia

Rayah Alshaar is 36 years old and from Hama, Syria.

I came to Denmark on june 16th 2016. I live in Kirke Hyllinge with my husband and five children.

Before the war my life was very beautiful. When I was a baby, many years ago on February 28th, Hafez Al Assad and his soldiers came to our house, and all houses in my hometown of Hama, and killed all males over the age of 16. I lost my father and five uncles. The soldiers kicked open our door at 4AM, and murdered my father in front of my mother, me and my sisters. The reason was that Hama was the centre of a beginning of a revolution against the regime, against Hafez Al Assad, the father of Bashar Al Assad. My mother took care of me and my sisters my whole childhood. I got married when I was 18. It was a beautiful day. Eight months later I gave birth to my first child. A son. I now have five children. I had cesarean sections with all of them. Continue reading “I was alone in Saudi Arabia”

Karin, my Danish aunt

Girl, 15 years old, Kurd, Syria

I arrived in Denmark with my family in 2016. I came with my parents and 6 siblings and first we went to live as refugees in a small house that was located in a place called Nykøbing Mors. And after having lived there for some months, we moved to Copenhagen to another temporary housing, where we were sharing facilities such as kitchen and shower with a group of other refugees. It was also in this housing that I met Karin, whom I now consider to be my ”Danish aunt”, and she is not only an aunt to me, but to my entire family. Karin first came to visit us and then we went to see her and to have some food in her apartment.  Continue reading “Karin, my Danish aunt”
